Is it because traditional Catholics are trying to be holy and good, so they are a bit naive insofar as they think that everyone is as honest as they are?

I've known many traditional Catholics who were taken advantage of by various  compulsive liars. Sometimes it's a romantic relationship (love makes one blind) but not always! I know one case of a man getting sucked into the lies of a male co-worker for months (even years) on end. The lies (which he conveyed to me) were absolutely unbelievable and made no sense, yet this man believed them. In this case, the man in question was desperate for friendship rather than a romantic relationship, but he was just as blind.

We sinners are found everywhere. Even Traditional Catholics tell lies. Even Traditional Catholic priests tell lies. In discussing a certain Traditional priest, now famous or infamous, depending how cultish one is, I was told that: "Every word that comes out of his mouth is a lie." In a manner of speaking I don't think that was really an exaggeration. I know him well. Lies have plagued Traditional Catholicism. Very recently, an SSPX priest friend of mine said of the small "Resistance" group operating in his parish: " They are liars and back-stabbers." This group has become small precisely because not everyone is happy with this sort of behavior.
I could say much more but then, I would be accused of telling lies .......   :sad:

A compulsive liar scamming someone is different than someone lying not to embarrass someone or not to incur wrath.

To the OP sociopaths use a person's good conscious and giving others the benefit of the doubt to manipulate them so yeah for sure isolated Catholics are more vulnerable. That combined with not entering into friendships or romantic relationships in the past due to standards they may lack experience in knowing what is normal. They are real manipulators, the victim's reputation may be destroyed too by lies so they become isolated from the people that might have otherwise given them more support early on.

I wish we could steer clear of the "trad" Catholic designation. How about true Catholic, or, more simply, just plain old "Catholic"?

Matthew, a lot of what you say is true, but I think you misunderstood a bit where I was coming from. I wasn't referring to life out in the world at large where it's true that the lumping of all sides into the term Catholic would tend to obscure meanings.
I was specifically talking about discussion in forums like this where everybody knows what sides have been drawn. Conceding to the opposition that we are a small group (which we are) composed of newly morphed animals needing a new name seems to be yielding on an important principle: that the Church in the past, and the present, and the future is always the same. Thus the Novus Ordo has stolen the buildings, and to an extent, the generalized term, Catholic, and we can't presently do much about the buildings, but I'll not be giving them the use of the word.  Those that keep the Faith are Catholic, those that don't, are not.  I'm not going to give them any satisfaction by moving away and figuring out a new name for myself in order to be understood.

That being said I believe you are making a good point as regards communications in general.  We are just looking at the same problem from different angles.

It is said that in Purgatory the place of the liars is that closest to Hell.
