Let's be honest, if it wasn't for Columbus people would probably still be on the menu in Central America today. While the Spanish were at odds with certain tribes, contrary to what we're told today, the Indians overall thought the Spanish were the best thing to happen since sliced bread having saved them from their bloodthirsty overlords.
Also while the Spanish brought smallpox to America which killed off a great number of the indigenous population, it's not like they transmitted it intentionally like the Protestants did with their infested blankets centuries later.
