  • Maybe others have had experiences as Catholics that they can't explain. These two I will always remember.

I was 12 in 1967 and I was sitting on my Mother's bed with my brother and we were reading a copy of my mother's Uncles book written by Culligan,it was about the End times. My uncle had made many markings in the margins. The one that my brother and I most remember was where he wrote the year 2013 and said that that year would start the end times. I remember thinking at the time I would be 60 years old then and that seemed such a long time in the future.

The 2nd one is one that I cannot explain but just accept as a wonderful grace. My Mother had just passed after a long illness. My brother, sister and I were all standing in her kitchen about 15 minutes after she had passed and I felt this wonderful feeling of warmth and love in my core. My sister turned to me and asked me "did you feel that" and I said yes and my brother said he had felt it too. We each,to the best of our ability described the same thing. We were all relieved in the next days as we layed our dear Mother to rest,as we knew she was in a good place. I say it was a grace because it strengthened my faith to unshakable.

  • I'll not comment on the story about your Mother except to offer my condolences on her passing.

    On this one:

If he had written '1998' or 2042' would that also be unexplainable?  Why is '2013' mystical?  Because it just happened?  It's a number.  Any year that he wrote was bound to happen eventually.

2013 is when we got 2 popes.  So, it was the beginning of something very end-timish.

May God bless your mother's soul and may He be your permanent Rock.

  • Speculating about the ends times is a waste of time, in my opinion.  It isn't even spiritually profitable.  Christ Himself told us that NO ONE knows when the end will be, except the Father.  Trying to obtain knowledge of when the end will be is fruitless.

Even if one could figure it out, which is impossible, what would it accomplish?  You should have your soul prepared all the time.

If you knew for a certainly the end will come in 2017, and you die tomorrow without preparing your soul, the knowledge was useless.

What utter rubbish.  Popes, even a saint, have abdicated in the past (admittedly on very few occasions) and there was nothing "end-timish" about that.

  • Well, there must be some value to informing oneself about the end of days. Otherwise, why would any mystics have ever bothered to write down their visions concerning it?

I do agree that one should be in a state of grace at all times because none of us knows the day nor the hour of our own ends, so we should be as prepared as well as we can be for that.

Personally, I don't care as much about the end of the world as I care about the opportunity to perhaps fight under the King. Our family fought under Clovis and Charlemagne, so it would be a great, great honour to fight under the command of the Great Monarch!!  And, we will also have the immense honor of witnessing the selection of the most holy pope!!  And that means a true return to the true faith on a global scale, and I would very much like to see that happen! I doubt I'll live long enough, but it's good to know that it will happen one day, even if I don't know what day that is.

No need to get upset.  I would be interested in how you might be able to make any comparison with Benedict XVI making way for Francis, and the other few who abdicated.
You cannot even compare the manner in which Vicar of Christ did his job 600 years ago to these last 4 popes, can you?
