Protestant Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke passed away recently. He was the founder of Christ for all Nations. According to their decision cards, CFAN has evangelized nearly 80 million souls for Christ in around 40 years, mainly in Africa. Daniel Kolenda, the successor Evangelist to Reinhard Bonnke who now heads CFAN, has called the new decade "a decade of double harvest" and set a target of 150 million souls to be won for Christ in 10 years. You can google it.
If even Protestants are able to do so much, shouldn't we who are Catholics be able to do much more? All Protestants, even Protestant pastors, are laymen, in that they have only received Baptism, and yet they are able to do much more than the average Catholic, who has received both Baptism, and even Confirmation. Why is that?
Catholics should definitely evangelize more going forward. Unfortunately, some Protestants are more focused on finishing the Great Commission than Catholics are. Our Lord said in Mat 24:14 His Gospel would have to be preached in all nations before He comes again.
And one reason for this lethargy is - some traditional Catholics are convinced some "Chastisement" is due to come any time in the next 3 to 5 years (and they've been convinced of this for the last 30 to 50 years, and it has not come - that's not to say it'll never come, but expecting and even hoping for a Chastisement to come save us is no way to live, is a bit like "rapture" thinking, and is disobedience to our duties given to us by Christ), and that long term thinking, strategic planning, and Evangelism, are all either impossible or unnecessary. This mentality has to change if the Catholic Church is to grow strong in the next 10 to 15 years.
What can be done for Catholics to evangelize more? It should be Catholics out there focused on finishing the Great Commission of Christ.
