  • I have sole responsibility for care of elderly parents and a minor nephew, autistic, on weekends and major holidays.  My only sibling works on these days. I live and work 80 miles away during the week, 10-12 hour days.  Nobody has money to hire outside help.  As the only practicing as well as traditional Catholic, I haven't been to Mass or received the Sacraments since April.  Bringing my parents or nephew to Church is not possible.  The closest Latin Mass parish will only send one of their "eucharistic ministers," but not on Saturday or Sunday.  In times past, I traveled 85 miles one-way in the opposite direction to Mass.  I've called around to a few traditional chapels, but they all declined due to distance, 90+ miles, and regular obligations.  Any suggestions?

I don't have an answer but I will add you to my December intentions and ask that a traditional Latin Mass comes close to you.
    What a sacrifice! God bless!

One thing to consider is where do you live?

I know a number of traditional Catholic who have gone out of their way to help people receive the Sacraments...

Fr. Ortiz from our chapel in Virginia travels once a month to Roanoke which is 4 hours one way.  He also occasionally offers Mass in Buffalo, New York...

Resistance priests and non-dogmatic sede priests like the CMRI or Father Joseph Collins have often also traveled quite a distance to offer Last Sacraments to the dying and occasionally have traveled to offer Masses for Conferences or those who can not regularly receive the Sacraments...

Maybe you take off from work a Holy Day of Obligation like this coming Thursday, the feast of Our Lady's Immaculate Conception?  That way, it will not be on the weekend...

Whether you are able or not able to get a priest to visit you in person, or visit a church during the week at some point... Please know that you shall be in my prayers!

Separation strengthens our love for God, and makes us appreciate His Sacraments all the more when  we are able to receive them.

Keep fighting and may God bless you!  :-)

Don't know if this will help you but Archbishop Lefebvre told the late Hamish Frazier's wife that she could go to the new mass....

    No--that didn't help--not the least bit.

I'll stick to the Archbishop's opinion; his outranks yours.

Make the care of your elderly parents and autistic nephew your Sunday sacrifice for the love of God. It is indeed a heroic act you are performing and God will reward you with special graces. If you do these well for the love of God, and because you have no other solution right now, you are working to achieve your salvation. Meanwhile pray for a little relief from your duties so that you might have time to read the Holy Mass or say the Rosary.

Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • Eastern Rites are an option for valid Sacraments.  Maronite Rite has become rather Novus Ordized, but most of the Greek Rites (Ukrainian, Byzantine/Ruthenian, Melchite) haven't been tampered with much.

I have been to a few Melkite ones that were modernized too...  So sad...

The Ukrainian still seem to be quite traditional though!  Thanks be to God for that!

Thanks, but Buffalo and Roanoke are about 10 hours from me.  Because my job involves the  care of special needs children, taking a day off is detrimental to their well-being.  Stand-ins are hard to find and usually do more harm than good.  I guess I just need to offer the matter up as there is little to nothing I can do about it.  For eight years I heard Mass twice a week and went to Confession once per week.  For whatever His reasons, God has allowed my privileged circuмstances to change.

Not only Archbishop Lefebvre but also Bishop Williamson and Fr. Pfeiffer.

  • If you are the sole care for your elderly parents who are not able to get out then neither they or you are bound under the obligation to attend Sunday mass.
More than 150 years ago there was an ancestor of mine who kept a diary. Almost every Sunday he went to mass. However when he was unavoiadably unable to attend mass he would read from his mass book.
Do you have any mass books or prayer books? I would recommend that you build up a routine of prayer with your parents. Maybe the rosary? The angelus? Something that would help bring them closer to God.

You take care of special needs children?  That does make things tough...

I am sorry...  I did not mean to indicate that you should travel to Buffalo or Roanoke.  What I meant to say is that there are some priests out there who, upon hearing of your predicament, might be willing to travel to you in order to give you access to the Sacraments at least once a year.  :-)

What a blessing to have been able to go to Mass twice a week and Confession once a week!!!  God certainly is allowing this to happen for a reason.  Perhaps he wants to make you appreciate the Sacraments all the more because you are not able to receive them.

At any rate, please know that you will be in my prayers.  God willing this trial will not last for too long.  But, all to His greater honor and glory!

Keep fighting and may God bless you!
