This prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola would be a good prayer for her to use on a daily basis:

Receive, O Lord, all my liberty. Take my memory, my understanding, and my entire will. Whatsoever I have or hold, Thou hast given it; I give it all back to Thee, and commit it to be wholly governed by Thy will. Thy love and Thy grace give unto me, and I am rich enough, and ask for nothing more.

In my youth, I was personally struggling with what psychiatrists described as schizophrenia. To calm down the insane whispers I heard in my mind, taking their pills didn't help me. But this prayer helped me greatly. 


"St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen."

I think this is true. I had horrific abuse growing up, I got away from the people who did it, began eating clean and exercising daily, and I don't have mood swings anymore. I feel better than most people which scares me. I don't believe trauma causes problems unless you're doomed to live with your abusers.

I believe that many things are explained by trauma, but to see all human psychology through this angle simply does not work. The Freudian thought makes sense for a lot of things, but for many others, it is simply ridiculous.

It is a great thing that you could get over your issues, but a lot of people can't, and they live their whole lives suffering the consequences of some traumatic events.

Probably most BPD episodes are brought on by trauma of some kind.  The BPD gene was always there but stress brings it out.  Plenty of creative and talented people have BPD.  It’s not all bad.  But today it’s usually associated with negative actions.  

On the other hand, people’s mental stability can be shaken and destroyed who have no association with BPD at all, simply by stress of some kind.  It’s why govts use sleep deprivation to break people.  Stress (of any kind) leads to chaos in the brain and nutrition imbalances.  

I don’t think the debate over BPD vs trauma vs nutrition is one or the other.  It all goes together.  The fact that this lady has been acting this way for a long time (and not in some short term way) says she has serious problems, whether emotional or spiritual or nutritional — probably all of the above.
