BPD is caused  -- as are all mental health disorders -- by unresolved childhood trauma.

It is typically exacerbated by demons.

Father Ripperger's program -- a spiritual regimen -- is good for resolving a lot of these.

But the regimen is not without cost; it is typically very difficult to complete.

All the best.

'Father' Ripperger is not a real priest, he also gives dangerous advice like promoting deliverance prayers.

The1914 book by Fr. Raymond, O.P. mentioned earlier is free on Internet Archive. https://archive.org/details/spiritualdirecto00raymuoft/page/n64/mode/1up

The above link is set to the chapter on hysteria, as it was called back then. The husband of the woman in the OP's situation would recognize in this chapter the description he deals with daily. Note too that Fr. Raymond's assessment is that the disorder is extremely difficult to cure, frequently includes willful manipulation and lying, and is even risky in its momentary contagion for others who have to deal with the hysteric. Interesting too is the description of the guile of such persons, which makes them to appear at times to be utterly generous, kindly, and without fault. Sobering reading.
Thank you for pointing this out and for providing a link to the free version online. Yes, this book is really good for traditional Catholics to read, especially today with all the lies surrounding the nature of mental illness, and how it relates to culpability.

You are so Freudian. Some mental health issues are actually caused by other factors, like hormonal imbalance, for instance.

While interesting on some points, Psychoanalysis is mostly a hoax. The fellow was Jєωιѕн. That should tell us something.

OP here.

The family in question, by all appearances, is very pious. I assume their diet is good, most of what they eat they source themselves. They have a small farm.

I used the term BPD just because it's the most convenient way to indicate a collection of behaviors-- regardless of the veracity of BPD clinically speaking.

To the poster who asked about just telling her the truth, I do think this is necessary. It isn't my place though, I think we need to bring it to her husband. I'm not sure how receptive he will be, he has his own issues (many of which I think are caused by his wife's behavior). Do pray for this family.
