  • Anything wrong with a simple "God bless" as a sincere courtesy? To say so seems quite Pharisaical to me but I could be wrong.

  • I see nothing wrong with that what so ever. I say it to Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

  • Non-Catholics certainly need blessings, so why not?
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • I don't say "Bless you" when someone sneezes.  People act as if I'm a monster for not saying it.

Is there a certain reason why you refrain from that gesture? Honest question. Maybe it's the same type of reason I don't pledge allegiance to the flag while everyone else in the room does.

I don't either, because it seems to me to trivialize a blessing.

  • I read once that the reason they said "God bless you" when someone would sneeze was from the middle ages when they thought that breathing in like that could cause a demon to enter you, so they would say "God bless you" to try to prevent that from happening.
    Matthew 5:37

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.
