  • I recently learned that my neighbor has her adult-aged mentally retarded daughter take birth control pills.  The daughter is severely retarded, cannot live alone, and certainly can never get married.  The mother told me that she has her daughter take the pills in case she is raped, or is tricked into having marital relations.

Do you think this is justified?

I don't think it is justified to take birth control pills for any reason. But I am not an expert so I may be wrong.

I read that birth control pills sometimes cause abortions so if she was raped she may conceive at first but then the baby would be aborted and the soul would go to hell.

That sounds like something out of the mouth of Margaret Sanger. No, it is not justified.

  • An evil act is never justifiable. Plain and simple. Just as abortion is not acceptable in cases of rape or incest or even to save the life of the mother, neither is contraception acceptable in this (or any other) circuмstance.

  • I was an assistant on the school bus for the special needs. Yes, this is done to these young ladies. Justified?  No!  The doctors who dispense BC, uses the paranoia to get the guardian to say yes to it.

Now, get the scenario, if she gets raped....  Those is the groups homes then know that they can do it, because they are with birth control!!

Another reason for BC, is to make the menstrual less, which the BC do.  They make an artificial lining which makes abortion possible, not favorable to a fetus and thus an early abortion, and not seen.

Some of these special needs may even get a hysterectomy.

Like guardiasil, it covers the effects of sɛҳuąƖ relations.  STD's are precursors of cancers. Nothing like trying to cover the evil deeds.

Also, Birth control be they pills or Depo shot, are a terrible mix with drugs already being taken.  Birth control ages the body, breaks down bone structure and makes them moody! or in this case moodier.

Just all round rotten!  If you do not want your special needs young lady raped, don't give the Birth Control and they WILL stay clear of them.

I completely sympathise with the mom's concerns, because handicapped people are preyed upon so often, but absolutely no to artificial contraception.

I'm almost wondering if a service dog could help protect the daughter.  A case could be made for funding, training the dog and so forth.  I am going to check this out--there are resources people don't know about to protect the vulnerable.

(and I do not sympathise with Margaret Sanger, just because I sympathise with an ignorant parent)

  • I do have one question, that is, is the guardian being forced, or maybe a better word, like "is she does not have the BC...... is anything being held over the guardians head.  The group home may complain that she is not easy to keep clean with a menstrual.  That is the other issue they bring up. But the guardian is THE one that is to keep close tabs on the daughter and that doesn't always fly.  The care givers are changed like underwear, sad to say.  And some group homes get low with help and take the special needs into another group home, bringing them all together to watch over, real sad.  I don't know if there is another way around it.  I will ask my sister sometime, for my niece is in a group home and I warned my sister and she keeps tabs, especially the food she eats.

I knew of a young lady that could not get benefits or assistance for whatever and BC was required.  So, she did not want the BC.  I suggested that she take the prescription and if need be prove that it was filled out and throw the BC away!  Now, there is Depo and that is a quick shot.  Can you imagine the side effects and you can't suck out the Depo.  I knew a lady who had a estrogene shot for her bones, said the doctor and she broke out and lost skin off her hands and wore gloves to drive a bus.

    Poche is right.

The guardian is responsible for her despicable act of giving birth control pills to a mentally retarded person.

  • It was pointed out by an earlier poster that giving these vulnerable birth control is the least possible protection-aside from the immorality of it.

A companion dog is a real possibility, for use in cases of emotional problems (easily provable in these cases) for protection.

These poor souls bear enormous crosses.

  • Yes, they do have a lot of suffering.  Especially if they are in a group home.  Some parents keep their children for as long as they can.  Martial break ups and then parent works and child is in a special school.  After age 21 they are no longer bussed to schools and group homes and such are next.  Some parents need time to themselves, IF, someone would stay with their special needs child.  That is the best gift you can give.

  • I totally agree.  I've know people who work in those group homes.  It's ghastly.

This is another tragedy resulting from the loss of all those nursing orders of Religious.  Christ have mercy on the poor simple souls.

  • I'm trying to make light of this, but maybe the mentally retarded are actually blessed.  If they receive the sacraments but do not have the capacity for sin.
