  • Doesn't matter if you disagree with them or not. Who are the best writers here?

    I nominate:

    John Gray
    PereJoseph
    claudel

  • They are good. I also like the witty ones.

  • Currently, Claudel is the finest writer on CI. His inerrant cadence and rhythm, his large working vocabulary, and his ingenious angle of attack put him at least a couple hands above the next closest contenders.

  • Yes, I'll give the nod to claudel, too.

  • Some more nominations from the op:

Telesphorus: He's not the flowery type, but I appreciate his economy.

StevusMagnus: He's good, but he can kick it into another gear when he's being critical of someone. He has a gift for putdowns.

    Raoul76: Good all around.

wallflower: A little too wordy for my taste, but she's good.

  • For making a concise, meaningful point on the SSPX crisis... it's Wessex.

My general impression of good writers, in no special order, are:

PereJoseph (always learn something from him).

Telephorus (concise, slam to the point, posts).

Matthew (good organizer of topics and thoughts).

Catholicam  (Great writer & fighter mainly on IA).

    Magdalena (Thoughtful, interesting posts).

    Sean Johnson (Astute, determined writer).

John Grace (Makes good, brief points).

    Neil (Good writer, deep analysis).

    Marlelar (Brief, but pertinent post).

    I surely missed many others.

God bless all the CI members who are posting and fighting for the one true Faith!

wallflower: A little too wordy for my taste, but she's good.

Wallflower is an Oprah-esque atmospheric writer. When she isn't throwing a tantrum, she is excellent at giving the impression - true or false I don't know - that she deeply sympathizes with her interlocutor. Since a constant flow of words is a necessary condition for the soothing, sympathetic atmosphere she conjures, it can't really be gainsaid as inefficient; it's just part of her style.

Neil posts interesting things. But I wish Neil would format his posts in a normal fashion. I often skip his stuff because I don't want to be bothered. He's said he posts in this fashion to make it easier for people to read, but for me it's harder.

This one surprises me. Matthew runs the best Catholic forum around, and often makes solid, intelligent posts, but is he a particularly good prose stylist? I find his writing a bit clumsy and unimaginative. 'Leaden' might be the word.

  • Who's a better writer: Mr. Brocklehurst on SD or claudel? I'd say they're about even.

I like content and insightful posts better than good prose or vocabulary, or flowery writing.

Yes, in that sense I generally like Matthew's posts more than Claudel's, Raoul's, and others named here, but the question is who writes good prose.
