Mexican immigrants hold onto a few vestiges of what they consider to be their culture: Oom-pah style Mexican music, the Spanish language, the Mexican flag. And flashy tire rims! But all the important stuff they quickly give up, in order to flourish here in protestant America. And many of them become actual protestants as well. Since when is it Mexican culture to love expensive brand-new trucks with neon running lights and hubcaps that spin while the vehicle is standing still?

Except that indigenous literature wasn't written by Mexicans. People forget that there were no Mexicans at all before the Spaniards arrived and donated their DNA and large parts of their culture. Indigenous Mexicans were (and still are) Indians.
