  • Someone who I know who goes to the Novus Ordo & the TLM had this to say: they saw an SSPX priest attending a Novus Ordo Mass in choir.

Does the SSPX allow this? [ I know they are firm against celebration of the Novus Ordo ]

  • If you've noticed recently, a significant percentage of SSPX priests aren't all that concerned with the old SSPX doctrinal positions anymore.

I'd be surprised if this were actually true.  An SSPX priest generally doesn't have enough time on his hands on Sunday mornings to go and participate in a novus ordo choir - which, from my experience, are nearly universally horrible.

Meanwhile, back in the SSPX, the choir is rehearsing "Mater Dei Misericordae"...

At the same time, the novus ordo choir is practicing "Gather Us In" and "We Are the Bread of Life"....

Not just to bag on the novus ordo choirs, but they do practice sometimes during the week right?  I'm not sure an SSPX priest has this much free time on his hands, when you consider the Hours, the rosary, and the prayers and fasting he goes through every day.   Meanwhile, charity prevents me from saying what the novus ordo priests are cruising around looking for...

Stop listening to, and passing on gossip.  If your friend truly knows the priest, have the friend give you the name of the priest.  Then you go find out from the priest if this is true.

If it is true, there could be a good Catholic explanation for it.

Gossip is a sin.  Taking undue scandal is sinful.  Be careful about matters concerning priests, and please remember to try and think the very best no matter the temptations which assail all of us every day.

  • It sounds like 1965 all over again. When news of Priests changing
pulpits with protestant ministers. This was the beginning of the massive
lost of faith among Catholics, and churches begin to empty out.

Archbishop Lefebvre attended a Novus Ordo from the pew. I think it was for a family event if I remembered correctly. Obviously he did not like it at all.

Of course not.  I am not joking when I speak of how universally horrible novus ordo choirs are.  It's like they are trying to be lousy.  They have no concept of being in key and sometimes I think people sign up for the choir under the superstition that it is a "holy" thing to do.  And then, they just mouth the words and not actually sing.

The novus ordo choirs are really bad.

    SSPX choirs are lovely singers.

  • To attend in choir does not mean to sing in the choir or schola, it means being present at the sanctuary in surplice. I would be very surprised if any SSPX priest does this, since it would be a way of participating in the NO. A different issue is the one raised above, the mere physical presence at the pews for a family funeral, without participating actively. But the fact that we may consider the possibility is a sign that things have definitively changed for the worse in the new SSPX. Kyrie eleison!
