Title: Are there sspx priests who continually bash sedevacantism?
Post by: Änσnymσus on February 29, 2024, 05:52:21 PM
I mean on Twitter. I don’t think I’ve seen any yet.

On the contrary, I know of several sede priests who day in and day out bash the sspx and “recognize and resist” and say all kinds of negative stuff on Twitter.

Any chance you can list those pages?  I'd like to see what level of bashing it is.  Is it 'next level' bashing or more like 'bashing 101'?

And that's a good thing.

I general it's a time wasting drug for starters, and it can easily lead to a disordered use of technology.

It protects the eyes from seeing unholy subjects and images that come up in feeds.

The SSPX understands itself to be a congregation of common life without vows. That means that it belongs to the style of religious institute that lives in community under superiors whilst still retaining the status of secular clergy (diocesan priests are secular clergy). They have de facto poverty rather than vowed poverty, a promise of celibacy rather than vow of chastity, a promise of obedience rather than promise.

Putting aside the moral arguments against social media -- these are strong arguments, in the view of the SSPX superiors, the possession of social media accounts by individual priests members would do nothing to promote the sanctity of the priest, would distract the priest from his sacerdotal and community vocations, could misrepresent the positions of the SSPX. Therefore, whilst the SSPX has corporate social media accounts administered by the communications offices of the congregation, individual priests of the SSPX are obliged not to have such accounts.

In the days long before social media or even the ubiquitous use of cell phones, we who were STAS seminarians did not have PCs, TVs, stereos, or private telephone lines. I had a crappy, plastic  knock-off Walkman on which I played audio cassettes from Keep the Faith kept in a box in the common room or had been sent to me by chapel friends from back home.

Excellent point.

Then again, a lot of people are moved by what they read on the internet; in fact, I would say that most people who become traditional Catholic today, and leave the Novus Ordo (or even convert from paganism) do so because of what they read on the internet, and to a large extent, social media. So to dismiss those things as useless or even harmful seems incorrect to me. Priests have always used the technology available to spread the truth.

Although the SSPX individual priests do not have accounts, the SSPX as an organization does, so they do not dismiss the Technolgy, they just regulate how it is used by it's clerical members and others under its leadership.

To this point, my understanding is that the Priests who live in my district are subject to very strict controls regarding their technology usage. They are required to have software installed on their personal phones and computers in the priories that block inappropriate content, monitor their screen time and even track exactly what they’re doing on their computers.
