  • old thread.
But "just in case" the OP happens to see...
I attend this chapel when I visit family in Rancho Mirage.  If Garden Grove wasn't so darned far from there, I'd go to Our Lady, Help of Christians.

  • I attend both Our Lady of the Angels, in Arcadia, and Colton, as I live almost directly in between them.

I would never attend Our Lady Help of Christians in GG due to the carelessness with which Fr. Patrick Perez treats the validity of priests who come from the novus ordor.

  • Monsignor Perez is a very kind and humble priest, who puts the salvation of souls ahead of the "good opinion' of others.   Shame on you!

Perhaps you should speak with him about your concerns face to face, not disparage him cowardly and anonymously on the internet.

He is not "careless" at all - - what an ignorant characterization of a man so obedient and faithful to Church teachings.
He is a theologian,, and teaches doctrine.

Our Lady Help of Christians is the largest trad cath parish I've ever seen,  hundreds of parishioners, lots of young families and children, a thriving school, frequent adult catechism, parish activities and participation etc.  Best of all, the parishioners behave like Catholics - dressing modestly in particular.  A tree is known by it's fruit.

Caveat:  I am not a parishioner of his parish, and I am not a sede.  I just know a good priest when I see/hear/talk with one.

  • Please stop with your over-emotional response. Address the topic at hand: Msgr. Perez has little care for the issue of validity, specifically when it comes to the conditional ordination of priests coming from the Novus Ordo. I am not attacking the person of Father Perez, but I very well could have, God knows (and I only say this to emphasize my point). I have spoken directly to Father about this issue, as have others, but he has called, from the pulpit, no less, those who are concerned with Validity and actually receiving sacraments, and I quote, "Validity Nuts".

Well, Monsignor, if I am a validity nut, why do you seek out the SSPX for the confirmation of your parishioners? Also, he said he would have no qualms about having a priest ordained by Mahoney serve at his parish. If you are suspecting of my words, please- do call Father yourself. Ask him. I do not think or claim he is a liar, far from it. Ask him these very questions. If you have no issue with this, then I would encourage you to do more research on the New Rites of Ordination, Consecration of Bishops, and other similar issues.  There are other issues I have with OLCH, but it is not necessary to bring up here at this time.

By the way, it is FAR from the largest trad parish out there, how many parishes have you even visited? And why would you call him a Theologian? What qualifications do you believe he has- speaking at Fatima Conferences? I will not comment on the parishioners of the chapel as a whole, as there are good people who attend there; but please don't make it seem as if its a paradise. Are you a woman?

  • Oh, please!!   Very kind & humble??!  Are we talking about the same man or are you Fr. Perez?

Obedient and faithful to church teachings? Oh please, please!  Fr. Perez was born & raised NO, of a wealthy family, & still has that mindset.  Ever hear the expression 'You can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy'?  Well, it would seem that you can take the boy out of the NO but you sometimes can't take the NO out of the boy.

You can't have been to too many trad chapels if you think his is the largest parish!

  • sounds like the person who is replying is the emotional one.  Irrational response..  Novus Ordo poison.
I can concur with the other that he is a theologian by degree - I forget what university he studied at - in Ireland I think?
Disgraceful calumny agianst holy men - another modernist tactic of novus ordo influenced "trads".  Get thee to a confessional and learn some humility.

  • And if I may add one more observation please?
I've attended trad parishes literally all over the world for the past 10 years, due to international work transfers and travel.  I have family in San Diego and Los Angeles and sometimes attend Mass at OLHC when I visit.
That is a pretty large church, and always filled.  One of the largesst parishes I've seen either independent or SSPX   In fairness I don't think that information was misstated.

The one thing I don't like about this forrum is the proclivity of some to slam priests in an ugly manner.  This thread illustrates.
It's one thing to discuss specific sermons or statements, but another to bring up family  background and personal feelings and weave it into general "I just don't llike him because he doesn't like novus ordo" gossipy kind of comments.

It's an immature and petulant style and just sounds like an emotional lashing out.

    Just sayin'.
