  • Hate-filled or malicious posts are not going to be tolerated on CathInfo, anonymous or not.

Members are not to use anonymity as a cloak for malice.

The Anonymous subforum was created to allow members to ask sensitive questions. As I have often stated, a person's handle represents an identity, even though someone might have difficulty getting that person's social security number. Just because you don't give out enough info to make yourself a victim of identity theft does NOT mean you are anonymous.

Anonymous is Greek for "without name". Your member name is still a name.

Posts in this subforum will be subject to moderation just like any other. If you see an offending post, please notify me about it because there is no way in heck I'm going to read every post on a forum as large and busy as CathInfo.

If there are any posts I've "missed" in the past (anonymous subforum or not),

    1. I apologize. I certainly have become more quick to deal with stuff like this over the past couple years.

    2. They might be old or buried now, but I say "better late than never". Send me a link to offensive or malicious posts, and I'll look into it.

What I don't want is a bunch of tattling about heated discussions. I'm not going to have a vague rule like "be charitable", even though that sounds really good on paper. Arguments can seldom be kept perfectly charitable like a discussion between two theologian-saints. Most Catholics aren't saints and I'm realistic enough to acknowledge that. Sins are between each member and God. I'm not here to prevent all sin.

AND YET...the more flagrant malicious statements, off-the-wall accusations, etc. will certainly be dealt with. There's a line that shouldn't be crossed.

You know what? I can't really put that line into words, either. That's why I don't have a robot or a software program do the moderation -- I do it myself. I can tell when someone was high on anger when they posted something, and I'll deal with it accordingly.
    Want to say "thank you"?

  • Keep in mind that malicious also refers to mischievous in motivation or purpose.  As in trying to perpetuate a militant feminist or modernist view under the guise of Catholicism.

I envy your position, Matthew, yet I don't envy your position.

    Good luck mon frere.

  •  :applause:You beat me to it, Matthew!  Be 'anonymous' for righteous purposes only.
~Prevent harm or embarrassment to others.
~Keep actual identity secure from theft or abuse.
~Maintain privacy regarding issues to which one has a right to privacy.

     :reading:
If someone starts insulting, accusing, etc. resist the temptation to retaliate in like manner.  With the exception of the teen hang-out forum, CI is for adults. So let's act like them!
    Frances, the :dancing-banana:!
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

    Mathew,

You make good points here which I had not seen advanced before.

Even though the identity of a person behind a username is not known to all, it may be known by some or many.
Whereas the username and also possibly the real identily of Guests who post anonymously can only be known to you and maybe your wife, unless either of you were to disclose that information, which you have said you won't do.
