His writings, especially "Cardinal Sins" would have gotten any priest excommunicated 50 years ago. He's a horrible person, but is he really wrong about what the Pope said?

And how does an person like him of no extraordinary talent get his writings so widely published? It goes to show he has the devil's agents promoting him.

But publishers don't necessarily publish what the public wants but what they want the public to read.

If you or I were to try to publish a first-class book, we would be hard pressed to find anyone to publish it and promote it. Yet Greeley is prolific, published and promoted. It's not just because there are a lot of modernists out there that want it, but that there is an agenda to be pushed.
