Americans are too 3 Ss Soft, Spoiled Selfish

  • I am getting  tired of politicians always trying to get (what used to be called) “pork,” $$ from the taxpayers for their own districts' projects, which usually translates into VOTES for them. And worse, they are always trying to prevent any kind of inconvenience whatsoever to certain groups, their constituents and others, those who have received “benefits” (dubious sounding word choice there) from the government.

“Oh, we can't cut Medicare! We can never cut Medicare. So many people would hate us and not vote for us again... can't cut that even by 1%!”

“Oh, we can't cut EPA, the environmentalists will have our heads (this one is true).. The liberals will hate us”

(As Trump said, they hate us no matter what. They are like jihadists that way (my words, not his),  nothing you can do to appease them or make them not want to “kill” you... Trump the other day said what many of us have been thinking when he said (my paraphrase) that even if we had a perfect (healthcare plan, I believe it was), they would say NO!! bc they hate Republicans.

“Oh, we can't cut entitlements, the libs and other Dems will accuse us of hating the poor! And worse, the poor probably will hate us and not vote for us!”

And I could go on and on. These are the kinds of thoughts that keep governemnt... forget “big,” it is HUGE, a monster, obscenely wasteful.. Many Americans are one paycheck away from homelessness, but the government has access to seemingly endless stores of cash from the taxpayers... to do really dumb, frivolous stuff with

So, yeh, we all need to stop thinking that governemtn is the answer. Instead, as Reagan said, it is the problem

A hackneyed phrase comes to mind, yet so apropos:

    no pain, no gain.

If We the Sheeple want (and most of us do) less abusive, intrusive, controlling, expensive, oppressive, corrupt, out-of-control-spending-wise government—well, there is a certain cost involved.

So choose what you prefer: being controlled in every aspect of your lives...being dependent on the Beast that wastes your money when you could do so much better with it...

    or choose:

Freedom, a more robost economy, less waste in government, fewer of your taxpayer dollars used to feed the insatiable, irrational (studies on the mating habits of fruit flies...) Beast in DC
I could list so many other down-right bizarre “uses” for your taxpayer money, which I have read about before... but at this point, I would have to look it up again... To parphrase 'Babs':  What's too bizarre and depressing to remember, we simply choose to forget”

So the people on entitlements just keep getting more and more incentive not to get off entitlements (and have a better life)... and some even feel more and more that they are not getting enough entitlements.. I am not speaking of those who are truly in need. There are some serously disabled people. But even the disabled can do certain, albeit limited things... I agree they can't all be expected to work the same kinds of jobs the non-disabled do...

The point is that we are all just getting entirely too comfortable with the Beast, too spoiled. I don't know what all Medicare covers, but I wouldn't be surprised to find it covers some electives. Is the govt covering sex-change operations? I hear those in prison who want that can get the govtment to pay for it! That is outrageous..

If we don't want a nanny state, we need to stop acting like a bunch of whiny, spoiled children. We can cut a certain percentage from ALL governemnt agencies.. and I guarantee: no one will die. Sure, if you cut some programs 100% there would be some problems. But no one in his/her right mind is talking about cutting any program out completely. The Dems always act like that is what the Republicans are proposing. But they are habitual liars.. deceivers.

And of course, those in Congress... when do they ever vote themselves a decrease in pay?

I heard President Trump is giving his salary as president to charity! Is that true? And it looks to me like he has made  sacrifices (even aside from that) to lead our country.. to  make America great again. Is it too much to ask that we the People have the same thought? We are becoming a nation of whining, self-centered...

  • people who only vote for their own group annoy the h*&^ out of me

when i hear about union people only voting for Democrats bc it might affect their union, it makes me want to slap someone ( a union boss, to be exact)

when i hear people say they vote according to whichever candidate will be best for his/her job or pocketbook... makes me ill

how about thinking about the most unfortunate group of all, who have no one to speak for them, no one to stand up for them legally unless YOU d o it? namely the unborn..

    life and death

now THERE's a reason to "vote single-issue" (so called... but it is an issue that obviously affects all others. Without life, you can't... um... do much)

    yep

  • To which Americans are you referring?  I am 57 years of age, work 12-14 hour days at low pay just too make ends meet---and often they don't!  I fall through the cracks of those eligible for govt. assistance because I'm white, female, single, no children, and make just enough to not qualify.  Just because my employer provides the bare modicuм of health insurance disqualifies me from Obamacare. I can pay the premium, but after doing so, the co-pay demanded up front is too high to receive regular medical care. Health issues include high bp, stress related, auto immune troubles, rheumatoid arthritis.  I don't drink, smoke, etc. The doctor is consulted only when all else fails.
My weekends are spent caring for elderly parents doing shopping, cooking, heavy cleaning, and I often watch my autistic nephew while doing these chores---he cannot help---because my bro.-in-law deserted his family and my sister has no choice but to work weekends.  My sister and older nephew, 18, work equally hard to keep a roof over their head and food in their bellies.
My sister does have state-based health coverage for her family, but doctors who will accept them are few and far away.
Our parents are well-off, and have supported the boys since birth with things such as school uniforms, necessary expenses, but their savings have been all but eaten up.
We have gone from upper middle class to working poor despite our best efforts.
If either my sister or I quit working, it'll be because we've been forced onto Disability, not because we've "retired."  As for myself, once that should happen, my plan is to try and find a priest to give Last Rites and hope I die sooner than later.
Our parents' health makes Mass attendance or Sacraments impossible, my own health and need to watch others on weekends makes Mass and Sacraments nearly impossible. Moving is too expensive and for the parents, no longer possible.  The nearest Mass other than n.o. is a three hour drive one way.  My sister is "not religious" like the majority of our generation.
We have no "social lives" or "vacations" to speak of.
So, in your opinion, are any of us soft, spoiled, and selfish?
There are many, many Americans just like us.  Please be careful before labeling all the citizens of an entire nation with derogatory names.

you shouldn't take people so literally. OP was speaking generally.
I myself am far from spoiled, although in a w ay, I am also... if you look @ things a certain way...
which is basically the point: a lot of Americans (NO, not you!) look @ the glass half empty. I do it myself. I admit i sometimes feel sorry for myself.. not so much bc I dont have this or that or whatever, but -- long story there. I guess I feel sorry for myself sometimes because I feel like a fish out of water (as a Catholic in a Catholic-hating world). In any case, the thing is, most americans are far too comfortable w/ big government. We all depend on it too much. So not it is this behemoth  no one seems to want to do anything much about

  • To original poster.. What country are you from?

It seems many countries have their problems worldwide.

Most terrorists are on the dole.
