  • Many parents I am sure would love to adopt a child including many trads. Why would Russia block loving and willing American families from adopting some of their orphans. Isn't that a little unfair?

Whats the trad perspective on this?

You can't just say look elsewhere,   what if the couple wants a Russian child?

Why do the good straight couples have to suffer as a result.

The consequence of sin, especially sin of that nature, is that everyone has to suffer.

  • I personally know someone who adopted a 15 year old boy from Russia.  These are sweet, loving, yet naive Evangelicals who adopted after meeting him ONCE.

They've had him their home for 4-5 months.  At this point his bedroom has no furniture, a lock on the OUTSIDE of the door, and their use zipties on him when he is violent (which is frequent).  He's threatened to murder them so many times they want to sedate him.

I got a chance to meet this "child".  I was terrified of him because he was ranting and raving that the dad (my doctor) was paying attention to me (the patient) instead of him.  I thought the kid would pick something up and attack me.

They are now considered sending him back to Russia.  The kid has been diagnosed as a sociopath.  He was put in an orphanage during infancy and was never abused but nevertheless.....he's criminally insane.

A couple in NY, also Protestant, with four children of their own adopted a boy from Romania in 2000.  They had a similar experience.  The boy, also dumped in an institution by his birth parents, is presently in a U.S. institution, diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic.  He beat two of his siblings, both his parents, and burned the house down before being reinstitutionalized in the US.  Likely he will stay in care his entire life.
Moral of the story?  Be careful!  Do not adopt out of sentiment.
As for Russia not wanting to give children to perverts, why would anyone think that's acceptable?
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

    Why would they specify Russian?

It's never a good idea to adopt a quasi-adult, which is what a 15yo is, especially coming from such a background. A tiny child brings its own baggage but is more likely to adapt to a new environment.

  • The decision to block adoptions to the USA was the media attack in the West against conditions for children in Russian orphanages.

A lot of people who adopted children were dealing with kids who had serious troubles from neglect and abuse. Things came to head when a family in the USA put a young boy on a flight back to Russia - one way.  These people were in over their heads.

When I lived in Sacramento we had a large Russian community of newcomers. In Russia the people their live by their wits. They brought a huge crime wave to Sacramento especially in the area of stealing and stripping cars. They also brought murder and mayhem with them. I can think of 3 incidents right off the top of my head.

Personally, I think the USA should outlaw overseas adoptions. we have plenty of kids in foster care waiting to be adopted in our own backyard.

By the way, statistically a person is 40 times more likely to be murdered by an adopted child than by their own biological child.

  • It's hard to fault anyone for having a big heart to open their family and home to an orphan. But they certainly do have problems from their environment especially if they're older.

Maybe it's rude to say but if you have children already its your obligation to protect them first. Why would anyone chance the risk bringing in an outsider who could do considerable damage to the family.

Exactly.  The disruption numbers are staggering.  RAD has to be seen to believed.

  • I'm not a fan of overseas adoption.  Children are a country's natural resource.  China, Russia, etc need to solve their own problems.

If foreigners were coming to the U.S. and taking our kids away I think many would see the situation differently.

OP, why don't you get involved with helping young unwed mothers in the pro-life movement?  A girl who wants to give up her baby may be open to a private adoption.

Yes.  It has very little to do with concern about Russian kids being placed with ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖs in America.  If Putin cared at all about the welfare of children, his efforts to advance it would start with his own orphanages.

This already happens, does it not?

There was an article posted recently on this site discussing how the US is a popular place for ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ couples worldwide to find kids available for adoption. It specifically discussed the increase in adoption of American black children by foreign ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ couples.

Better yet help a young mother raise her child instead of the pain of separating them. $30,000 could pay the rent for four years in many locations for a woman and her child.
