Alex is looking at two things simultaneously (I didn't know this was possible), the board index and Friendly Advice to Gobosox91. I imagine she is agreeing with Capt. McQuigg that gobosoxx should stop creating all these threads. However, she might feel a tinge of guilt for thinking this because Catholics should always be open to answering questions about their faith, and not be too picky about breaches of etiquette, if no offense was intended.

    Wrong.

A fascinating topic! I admit I am a chronic active users viewer.

Do you do the same thing? Look at a thread that someone is viewing and wonder what they're thinking about it?

    What tragic waste of time.

  • How on earth can you see what topic a user is viewing?

So you got it wrong about Alex. As consolation, that is what I was thinking. I had to smile when I read it, cause you pegged me.

I just noticed Telesphorus and LordPhan viewing the active users.

Oftentimes I like to look at the active users to see what someone is looking at. Then I read the thread they're reading and try to imagine what they're thinking about the thread.

For example, right now this is what the following people are doing:

Roscoe is searching. I'm guessing that he's searching for past posts on the green herb.

Zenith is looking at Catholic Living in the Modern World. I think this subject interests Zenith because he is getting married soon and will have children, and he has to figure out ways to raise them without allowing the modern world to corrupt them.

I have not even Attempted to use the 'Search' DISfunction in this Forum for at least a yr.

  • The Guest poster may want to consider that if someone is parked on the New Posts page, the Active Users function probably indicates that one is searching for new posts.

Fishface is posting something.  . . Why hasn't he been banned yet?

Matthew will ban him once he sees his bizzare posts, I'm sure.

Over on Fisheaters there used to be a member named Scipio. He would use information he had gained from people in the prayer section against them in arguments. I found that unsavory and unCatholic, to say the least.

Yeah, he posted here, too, and was banned.

I've notiiced tele parked on the a tive users page a lot. I think this thread made him more cognizant of that forum efeature and made him want to spend a lot of time there. The odd thing however is that he just sitting on that page. Hey tele you should read some posts and not be parked there all the tiime!

IF a forum is for communication then it's important to know what other people are paying attention to.

The latest posts feature lets you see who has posted most recently and where.

The who's online feature lets you see who is reading.

The latter is actually more useful when one considers the audience of one's posts.

The former is useful for knowing when to respond to posts.

  • I also like using the active users feature, for the same reasons Tele noted.
