Post Re: Archbishop Lefebvre & La Salette
Here is a complete corrected version of the text in English with some comments from me beneath :

    Introduction
    _____________
Father Giulio Tam, a member of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X of Italian origin, who receives daily the “Osservatore Romano”, the official journal of the Roman Curia, has thought good, for the information of his confreres, to gather together the most significant passages from the discourses of the Pope and the Roman authorities about the most topical subjects.
The collection sheds such brilliant light on the doctrinal Revolution officially inaugurated in the Church during the Council and continued up to our days that one cannot help thinking of the “seat of iniquity” foretold by Leo XIII, or of Rome losing the faith foretold by Our Lady at La Salette.
The diffusion and adherence of the Roman authorities to the Masonic errors many times condemned by their predecessors is a great mystery of iniquity which ruins the Catholic faith in its foundations.
This harsh and painful reality obliges us in conscience to organise on our own the defence of our Catholic Faith. The fact of sitting in the seats of authority is no longer, alas, a guarantee of the orthodoxy of the faith of those who occupy them. The Pope himself now ceaselessly spreads the principles of a false religion, the result of which is a general apostasy.

We therefore give herewith the texts, without commentary, for the year 1990. Readers will be able to judge for themselves and by the texts of the Popes of before the Council.

Reading them amply justifies our conduct for the maintenance and restoration of the Reign of Our Lord Jesus Christ and of His Holy Mother on earth as in Heaven.

The restorer of Christianity is the priest, by offering the true sacrifice, by conferring true sacraments, by teaching the true catechism, by his role of vigilant shepherd for the salvation of souls.

It is around true and faithful priests that Christians must group themselves and organise the whole Christian life. All spirit of distrust towards the priests who merit confidence diminishes the solidity and the firmness of the resistance against the destroyers of the faith.

Saint John closes his Apocalypse by this appeal : “Veni Domine Jesu,” Come Lord Jesus, appear at length upon the clouds of Heaven, manifest Thine omnipotence. May Thy reign be universal and everlasting.

    Écône, 4th March 1991
    + Marcel Lefebvre

    Notes by J. S. Daly

    1. The Archbishop is writing an Introduction to accompany the publication of a selection of texts of John-Paul II and other high-ranking Roman sources chosen by Father Tam from the Osservatore Romano to shed light on the crisis in the Church. Fr Tam’s collections appear on his website http://www.marcel-lefebvre-tam.com. In the books section the 1990 collection is given as Number 1.
    2. The Archbishop uses three scriptural allusions apocalyptic in character : “mystery of iniquity”, “general apostasy” and “Come Lord Jesus,” the final words of the Apocalypse.
    3. The Archbishop alludes to two non-scriptural apocalyptic sources : first to Pope Leo XIII’s long prayer to saint Michael which said, “In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered;” secondly to a text known as the “Secret of La Salette” and widely circulated despite repeated condemnations by the Holy Office and at least one mention in the Index of Forbidden Books. This text predicts that “Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of Antichrist”.
    4. The Archbishop continues to refer to John-Paul II as “pope” despite declaring that he is ceaselessly spreading a false religion and must be ignored in defending the faith. In another passage he refers to those “sitting in the seats of authority”.
    5. The general flavour of the Archbishop’s text appears to go beyond its scope as an introduction to a short collection of extracts from the Osservatore Romano. By giving general advice about trust in priests and general comments about preserving the faith during the crisis, the Archbishop seems to intend his words to be read and applied widely. The striking final appeal “Come Lord Jesus” coupled with the author’s death at 85 a few weeks later, without having written any later public docuмent, invites the view that this text is in some sense the Archbishop’s last will and testament.
    6. If Archbishop Lefebvre is bequeathing us in this text his final guidance and definitive judgement about the present crisis, it seems that it can be summarised as follows :
    a. The crisis we are living through is essentially due to fundamental falsification of the Catholic faith on the part of the occupants of Rome during the Council and since.
    b. As of 1991 there was no sign of improvement in the situation.
    c. This corruption of the faith is revolutionary and Masonic in origin, radical in kind and apocalyptic in its consequences.
    d. It is essential not to confuse the New Mass, new sacraments and new catechisms with the true Mass, true sacraments and true catechism.
    e. It is essential to distrust entirely the Roman authorities who, though continuing to occupy their offices, in fact represent not Christ but Antichrist.
    f. The preservation of the faith must be organized privately around trustworthy priests.
    7. The Archbishop’s words can be fruitfully compared with others dating from the closing years of his life which manifest the consistency of the Archbishop’s views on the above points. For example :
    a. “Rome has lost the faith, my dear friends. Rome is in apostasy. These are not words, they are not words in the air that I am saying. It is the truth. Rome is in apostasy. These people can no longer be trusted. They have left the Church, left the Church. They are leaving the Church. It’s sure, sure, sure… (…)
    b. “I summed it up to Cardinal Ratzinger : ‘Your Eminence, look, even if you grant us a bishop (…), we cannot collaborate ; it’s impossible, impossible. (…) For us, Christ is all. Our Lord Jesus Christ is everything, He is our life. And you are doing the opposite.’ (…) There you are. We can’t understand one another. That, I assure you, is the summary. One cannot follow those people. (…) It’s inconceivable, inconceivable (…) It’s unbelievable, unbelievable ! So how could anyone imagine that one could trust such people ? It is no longer possible.” (September or October 1987 address to seminarians. The interview with Ratzinger referred to had taken place on 14th July 1987.)
    c. Likewise in his letter to the four bishops he was about to consecrate in 1988 the Archbishop had stated, “the See of Peter and the posts of authority in Rome being occupied by Antichrists, the destruction of the Reign of Our Lord continues…”
    d. In his letter of 25th January 1987 he wrote : “This overturning of the faith seems indeed to be preparing the way for the Antichrist in accordance with the prophecies of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians and in accordance with the commentaries of the Fathers.”
