I'm sorry if I was unclear. I absolutely reject the Medjugorje apparitions as well, without the slightest doubt.

What I am puzzled about is what those people seem to be seeing in Medjugorje? I guess what most of the accounts describe sound like the weird effects that appear on the retina when one looks at a bright object for too long. They describe seeing the sun change colors and becoming blue and red and so on, and spin around, and grow dark. You can see the same thing if you look at a light bulb directly for too long.

By the way, what an incredibly stupid thing to do to stare at the sun for an extended period of time. Although some people said they could do so without hurting their eyes. I guess they'll find out some day if that's' true.

To the person who said that four contemporary priests attested to all 3 of the seers saying they saw short skirt, can you provide a facsimile of the priests saying it that dates back to early 20th century?

Otherwise there's no way of knowing if they just made it up later on when said priests can't deny it because they already passed away.

What can be proven or disproven is the prophecy about WWII and the light in the sky being made before they happened.

It should be easy to provide a date and evidence for that.

This is what the priest I knew some years ago went to Fatima to find out and he was very disappointed by the evidence showing it was after and not before.

I don't take his word for it though and would like to find actual evidence.

Plus the actual statements about the short skirt rather than people's opinion about it.

The prophecy of the light in the sky was fulfilled in January of 1938. It is a recorded event. My grandparents saw it in Italy. They saw a red light shining over the southern horizon, and it was being cut as though with knives. They were terrified.

Rationalists claim this was the aurora borealis. This is impossible because 1) in the northern hemisphere, the aurora borealis is seen in the north, not the south; 2) I don't think it's usually red; 3) it is seen high in the sky, not on the horizon, and 4) it isn't possible to be as bright as what was seen in 1938. Yes, it happened. So did WWII. Nobody disputes that.

The problem from what I understand is that there is no evidence Lucia prophesized it before hand.

The allegation is that the prophecies were added to the records after the fact.

That's why I posted this in reply #22:

Were the prophecies about WWII and the light in the sky added after the events had already taken place? The allegation is that these things were never mentioned until 1941 when Lucia wrote her 3rd memoir. Apparently the docuмents are not open to the public and only to clergy or those with clearance to go in person and look at them. Does anybody have any evidence of these prophecies before the events took place?

This should be easy to disprove but instead of evidence the discussion gets sidetracked. The same for the statements about the short skirt.

The priest I spoke to went to Fatima and said there was no evidence of the prophecies before the events and was aghast at some of the very negative evidence against the seers sainthood.

Like I said, I don't take his word for it and would like to see if there is evidence to the contrary.

The links I provided in Reply #64 are supposed to have evidence but they are in Portuguese.

That's as far as I've been able to get.

This prophecy about the lights and WW2 was not part of the 3rd secret. I'm pretty sure the 3 children spread this, and all the other things Our Lady said, to all the village people and family, friends, etc. This was all done verbally. The children were young; they had amazing memories; there was no need to write it all down immediately.

Even if Sr Lucy wrote it down later, while in the convent, the actual prophecy happened long before WW2. You either believe it or not. I'm sure all those who heard the prophecy remembered it 20 years later when they saw the lights. So that's 100s of people who heard it firsthand, and then 1000s upon 1000s more who heard it from friends and from pulpits, as the news of Fatima was spread across Europe.

Most of all those people are dead now, so the "evidence" is gone. At least the type you're looking for.

Yes, 1917 is 20 years before 1938, but apparently this information was not divulged until 1941.

It's strange there is no record before the events when part of the secret states "to prevent this".

When you say "divulged", do you mean divulged to the public? My understanding was that these secrets were communicated to ecclesiastical authorities right away, or certainly before their fulfillment.

That's what I can't find any docuмentation of and the priest that went to Fatima said there isn't any.

If she only verbally stated the contents to the ecclesiastical authorities and they kept it secret and didn't write it down anywhere,
wouldn't that be strange when it states things that need to happen so WWII won't break out?

For a prophecy to be true there has to be a record of it before the events (like the light in the sky) doesn't there?
