  • I am asking this question here in the anonymous section because I don't know who else to ask. And I don't want to seem like I think I am special or anything, because that would be the opposite in my case. I also know that we are not to give too much credence to  "feelings" like the protestants often do. With that disclaimer, what I am asking is : When at Mass, does anyone ever have the experience of the Host being very warm? The past few times I have received communion. (3 different priests) the wafer has felt as though it was very noticeably warmer than body temperature. Not really hot, but very warm as though it had been taken from a warming tray or something. (I really don't think there is a hotplate in the tabernacle.)This is usually accompanied by a strong emotion, though I am not sure what to title that emotion. It seems to be a mixture of sorrow, gratitude, and peace. Am I weird? Am I hallucinating? Have they changed the recipe of the wafers somehow? What does it mean? I can't ask anyone in person because I don't want them to think I am a) crazy or b) looking for some kind of attention c) think I believe I am saintly or somesuch, which is definitely not the case. Please think before you type, this is a serious inquiry.

  •   My experience about 10 years ago was when I looked at the host at Benediction, exposed on the altar, I could see it pulsating.  The first time this happened to me, I looked around the church to see if anyone else noticed it.  I looked up at the fans on the ceiling and decided it must be the fans creating this phenomenon‎.  Next time I saw it the fans were not on, it only happened at Benediction.  This went on and on, and I started to feel important.

I picked up a spiritual book and read about true miracles from God and how to tell if it was from God or the evil one.  I decided mine was from the evil one, because as the book stated, I was starting to feel special.  I just knew it was from the devil, and I asked God to take it away from me, and He did.  I haven't seen this again.

Just addressing my own experience. Not trying to crush yours.

      Now 10 years later:
I have been thinking about how the Blessed Sacrament is God, and why is it that we believe, but don't realize what this means.  I for one, am pious during the holy parts of Mass, but I can't make myself realize what is going on.  The Creator of everything is right there, God, and all I can do is bow my head.  I believe but do not realize.

I think I'd ask a priest about this one, if it really bothers you, or if you feel somehow better than others.  The only time I experienced anything unusual in the spiritual realm was when I went to Communion after a General Confession.  Then, when I returned to the pew, and later, up two flights of stairs, I felt strangely lightweight, as if I were boyant in the air as if on water. I haven't thought about it in many years.

  • I have had experiences of feelings associated with the Holy Eucharist.  I assume that it is an indication of my weak faith that needs this extra sign from God.  I thank Him for helping me to believe what I should but do not think about these feelings very much.

  • In my experience, hosts that have dried out a little because they have been in the Tabernacle for a while feel colder in temperature.  When the priest has just opened a sack of hosts prior to Mass and the hosts are still moist from the original packaging soon after they were baked, the hosts feel warmer in temperature.

It may be just as simple as that.

  • Sometimes in prayer I have the sensation that there is a very slight pressure above my head, as if there were an invisible hand there just almost touching my hair or head. Not very often, just once in a while. And sometimes when that happens I have the sensation that with my eyes closed in prayer it seems like the light in the room has become lighter, as if I opened my eyes I would find the room brightly lit, when in reality the room is very dark. I am suspicious of such feelings as temptations to think I have been given some sign of God's presence (or an angels) because I know that I am totally not worthy of any such thing.
