Belloc was another one, like Chesterton, who favored the French Revolution.  Is this a plague?

http://www.amconmag.com/article/2003/jan/13/00015/

Quote:
Notwithstanding the fervor with which pope after pope—especially, in Belloc’s youth, St. Pius X—had declared support for Jacobins and indeed Girondins to be incompatible with the most basic Christian decency, Belloc remained as eupeptic as any Charles James Fox about the entire pageant of French politics from the Bastille’s fall via Robespierre to Napoleon.

P.S. I think that article is the first time I've encountered the word "eupeptic."  I'm gathering it's the opposite of "dyspeptic.'

I hate to say it, but if I'm right, the French Revolution fits right in.

Fits right in to what?

I'm afraid of the answer. Things may be about to get real ugly.

I hope nothing gets ugly. There is no reason for it to.

Here's the problem. I am guessing from what you, Raoul, said, that you and Belloc desire everyone to hate America, straight across the board. It sounds like you find no good in her. It was hate that fueled the French Revolution.

So admiration of the French Revolution would fit right in here.

I was wrong to say I "hate" America, or at least inaccurate. The hatred is not for the country itself in terms of the people who are in it, it is for the SYSTEM that we live under which removes Catholic faith and morals from public life.

You see me as being part of the French Revolution, because the French Revolution was about hate? Talk about missing the point entirely! It is AMERICA that "fits right in" to the French Revolution, because its principles of "Liberty, Equality and Fraternity," its hatred of kings, its emphasis on religious freedom ( meaning freedom from Catholic rule ), even the very colors of its flag, have all been adopted by America. America is Masonic and so were the leaders of the French Revolution. They tell you you have "liberty" and are "free" while they slowly build up the kingdom of Antichrist, eliminating those who stand in his way, like the kings and the powers of the Church. And you are falling for it.

To use my favorite example, if I were a Jew -- when the Jews were the chosen people -- living in Babylon, and I hated living in Babylon, would that have been bad? Where would you have rather lived, in Jerusalem, the chosen city, or Babylon, full to the brim of perversity and wickedness? Have you looked around yourself lately?

SO WHY DO YOU CELEBRATE MYSTERY BABYLON WHICH IS AMERICA, WHERE THE CATHOLICS ARE IN EXILE? Do you see the delusion here?

Not at all. I despise our gov't, too. But you guys are not differentiating. And that must be done or there will be misunderstanding.

Personally I prefer a good cleansing or an operation to remove the cancer, if you will.

Here is an explanation of Hilaire Belloc's views.

And I imagine it's the same for GKC too.

LOL I just remembered something. I once told my husband, we could move to Communist China. And he said, "Why bother. We already live in Communist America."

He got it from me. I'm the one who has followed the political scene. He's like Andy---doesn't follow.
