Men and Women only subforums - are you identified yet?

  • UPDATE: I modified the Online Users section on the main page -- from now on, men show up as BLUE, women as PINK, and the androgynous show up as GREY.

A long time ago, I created "Men only" and "Women only" subfora.

I recently wrote a new feature for CathInfo which makes it easier for me (and my wife) to "identify" members as Men or Women. It only takes a couple of clicks now.

Click on your profile. If you are listed as group "Members" then CathInfo has you down as gender-androgynous!

In this thread, you can tell me which sex you are so I can rectify that. (on this forum we only believe in two, male and female.)

     :laugh1:

Once I update your profile, everyone will know that minor tidbit of your identity. Hooray for being anonymous, but I don't like having my sex being unknown. If you think that people merely knowing your sex will allow them to identify you, I have just a few words for you: GET OVER YOURSELF! You're not as important as you think you are. I'm here to say, you blend in MUCH BETTER than you'd ever believe. You're practically invisible, trust me.

Seriously -- there are 7.4 billion people in the world. Knowing that I'm male just narrows it down to about 3.5 billion. Give me a break!

Even if you posted some super-secret or confidential info that Fr. X only told to one or two people, it still wouldn't matter if you identify as Male or Female on CathInfo. He might figure out who you are, but it will be because you posted confidential information that no one else knew. THAT will identify you to him, not your gender identity. So the real issue is what you post on CathInfo.

  • I suspect there are a good number who don't know that these sub-forums exist. You might need a quick review of the basic concept:

When you're placed in the appropriate group, you can see the gender-specific forum. Guests, those of the opposite gender, and those not assigned a gender can not view these sub-forums.

Since "guest" can not view these sub-forums, that means these pages are also not indexed in web search engines.

  • Rather than, or perhaps in addition to, the color codes, I'd like to suggest adding a symbol under each poster's name:

    Girl:  ?

    Boy:  ?

Unknown:  Something like: ? or ?

(Not sure why the symbols above are grey.  That's not my intention.  This way, we would have a better idea of the sex of various posters, especially when we are directly responding to someone.

  • One more thing -- unless you are currently listed in group MEMBERS (not "Men" or "Women") please refrain from chiming in this thread (unless it's to make some other comment)

Because several members have posted here who were already in group Men or Women. That means I already know what you are. No need to announce it to the world :)

Now if you're still in group "Members", then by all means, PLEASE chime in here to let me know what you are.

  • Love the pink and blue!  It really helps understand some of the posts.

What would help even more, especially when the post identifies a chapel by name and we don't have a clue where it is, would be to have the country flags back like a few years ago.

I realize most posters are from the U.S. but it would be really nice to see all the other countries weighing in on topics.

Matthew, is it possible to have the flags back?

  • Listed as member, am male, thanks Matthew, although holding that there is male and female only will become a hate crime (unless some change or chastisement comes), and in some third level/college contexts, it is treated as that.

  • Hi, all.  I am proud to be a woman, wife, and mama!  And American, to boot.
