  • Just want to get some views on what some of you guys think about this round.  Also, I am looking to trade up to a .44 magnum.  Let me know if you want to wheel and deal (if anyone has a .44 that they are looking to get rid of).

I would think about anticipated shooting conditions and safety. A .44, for instance, has stopping power but will usually lose momentum quickly and stay in the target, because it has less velocity than the .357 and the bigger diameter makes for more deformation in flight, so if you anticipate having to stop someone in a crowd for instance, or don't know what might be behind your target, I'd recommend that as a .357 will often go right on through.

My impression of the .44 magnum round in a revolver
is that the concussion from firing it is distracting.
Its like a canon going-off in your hand.

Its the recommended round for pig hunting, where you need to penetrate the animal's skull in close quarters. Maybe shooting gloves would dampen the concussion?

A more pleasurable round to shoot is the .44 special.

Be sure to choke-up on the handle for improved accuracy.

  • There are times when I am in Grizzly bear country, that is why I was thinking of the .44 magnum round.  This may be dumb of me (because I might end up maddening the bear more than anything else) but I carry my .357 in bear country.  I also have a 9mm with a 15 round mag.  I figure if I get ten shots into out of the 15 than I might have a chance.  Then again, I might just make it so mad that it wants to torture me before he kills me.  Well, to be honest, I am a fairly good shot.  But if a 500 pound grizzly was charging me I probaly couldn't hit it if it was as big as a broad side of a barn.  Then again, maybe my guardian anger would help me.

Though, I do have a good sense of security when I have those guns.

What are the main differences between a Sig .357 and a .357 magnum?

Just guessing... approximately 300 ft./sec in velocity.
