Fear of ovens, phobia?

I have a problem with learning to cook and it is embarrassing because everybody is using this against me whenever they want to make fun of me.
Well, I am just afraid of ovens, and for this reason, being 26 year old I cannot cook even the simplest of foods. Mom took me to a psychiatrist who said that I needed medicines while an other one says that it is not needed.
The hardest part is that even thinking about it makes me anxious, and disappointed. I wonder if I have a PTSD for ovens or not, but I can't remember any trauma related to a damage by ovens (like burning myself or seeing an other person burning himself).
(Note: I can cook everything if another person is in the kitchen watching and guiding me, but when alone, I don't dare touch the oven).
Do you know of any similar cases? How can it be overcome?

Just do it! Not meaning to make light of your problem, but might it be when you were very young you took the story of Hansel and Gretel to serious.

Question: are you more scared of the oven itself as in its potential to burn you, etc., or are you more scared of using the oven to make things?

Are you worried that your food won't turn out right so you avoid using it altogether in order to not dissapoint yourself?

Justed wanted to ask a few questions before I throw out my ideas.

I find it interesting that you are fine with it when others are around. Maybe this is a confidence issue. In other areas of your life, do new things intimidate you?

Er, this is Jen51 speaking. I'm missing the button that makes me not post anonymously... I don't see it.
