1399 The Eastern churches that are not in full communion with the Catholic Church celebrate the Eucharist with great love. "These Churches, although separated from us, yet possess true sacraments, above all - by apostolic succession - the priesthood and the Eucharist, whereby they are still joined to us in closest intimacy." A certain communion in sacris, and so in the Eucharist, "given suitable circumstances and the approval of Church authority, is not merely possible but is encouraged."

Hey, that's a good citation of an opinion.  I can cite other doctrine that is obviously Catholic.  So what should we conclude from these facts?

There are only two options, either posit that the SSPX is the Church itself and thus it would be absurd to have doctrinal talks with a false church, or recognize that the SSPX is not identical to the Church....

They are not the only two options.

If good-willed Catholics perceive the SSPX to be juridically "normal" then they will more readily attend and support its work, thus effecting broader return to tradition and the eventual restoration of the Church.

This sounds nice, but is not realistic.  This is like thinking we can right the USA if we just make the right choices come November.

This will come about with no compromise at all.

Which is the exact opposite of what caused Bp Williamson to mention what he did in his comments.

Quote:
If certain ones appear to be saying some nice things lately, it is merely for diplomacy.

Indeed -- playing politics, which is exactly what Bp Williamson is lamenting.
