Gospel Commentaries for Sundays

Just as I have posted the late Cardinal Schuster's commentaries upon the Mass formularies of the Roman Missal, so I thought it a good idea to present a series of commentaries particularly devoted to the Gospel Lesson of the Sunday Masses. From the work of the great scholar Rev. Father Cornelius J. Ryan, The Gospels of the Sundays and Festivals with an Introduction, Parallel Passages, Notes and Moral Reflections (Vol. I; Dublin: Browne and Nolan, Ltd., 1914), here is a commentary for the Gospel Lesson for Septuagesima Sunday. It is my hope that these commentaries enable you to attain to a greater understanding and esteem for the hallowed Mysteries that are contained in the Sacred Gospels: the heavenly teachings and examples given by the very same Lord and God of ours Who is well-pleased to visit us in the sacred and dread Mysteries of Holy Mass and to unite Himself to us in Holy Communion.
