Lately there have been prominent members of CathInfo (s2srea, SpiritusSanctus, Raoul76, Sigismund, etc.) who have complained about what they see as a qualitative declivity of this forum, sometimes in unjustified categorical statements, and some have even threatened to leave. This is all regarding controversial discussions on ethnicity, the Third Reich, the Jews, etc.
Some points to be noted:
1) CathInfo is what you make of it: if you wish for things to get better here, then continue to contribute in a substantial and positive way, instead of getting obsessed about these questions or leaving.
2) Yes, there are extremists who take these issues too far, and their stupidity and obsession serves as their own refutation. You should be mature enough to point it out and then move on. There are a lot of important topics and current events going on that need your perspective and analysis.
3) Not everyone who chooses not to get involved in the debates in question necessarily agrees with your opponents, and vice versa. So not all of CathInfo is being "deranged" by certain people (and I do not have any member in particular in mind).
4) Matthew has specifically reiterated time and time again that honest and open exchanges and discussions are always tolerated, even reaching the point of schoolyard politics, so long as they do not contain heresy or blasphemy or immorality. Why should he be censured because of this? Keep in mind, tolerating views that politically and culturally vindicate Hitler is actually milder than tolerating views that condemn as an apostate anti-Pope the cleric whom billions of Catholics recognize as the Roman Pontiff. You have to give credit where credit is due.
5) The problems of CathInfo are reflections of the problems with the "traditionalist movement:" yes, there are racists in all camps of Traddieland (especially amongst the clergy), just as there are a great number of lax and liberal worldlings amongst traditional Catholics. The thing is that you may have some things to learn from others' points of view, even if they disgust you, the same goes for your opponents.
6) Focusing on how CathInfo is "going downhill" does not do justice to those who actually try to make this forum into a good place for all Catholics. Just take a look at the prayer request threads, the congratulatory threads and at the Library. I mean, where else are you going to find St. Bernard's Sermons on the Canticle of Canticles, or Ludolph of Saxony's commentary on the Passion of Our Lord!? Try to find these books on eBay or Amazon: don't hold your breath, though.
Basically my point is that everyone should take time to breathe and calm down, and see that it is not as bad as it seems when you focus on certain controversial issues.
These things bother me too because of the slurs certain rascals have written, but I have contacted the Matthew in the past about it and have left it up to him to judge what is best. I don't see the benefit of endlessly engaging in discussions that go nowhere, or demanding that certain rascals be banned, or announcing my departure from CathInfo, etc.
If I want to leave, I'll simply stop posting and move on. People won't even notice it anyways.
I have a life to live, bills to pay, responsibilities to fulfill, etc. Everyone of us does. Life is bigger than these issues, and both sides (I hope) should be able to acknowledge that.
So that's what I got to say about this.

Let's see.
Making the point that Hitler was milder than, say, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot would be completely valid (though, I think, rather irrelevant).
On the other hand, we've had several men claiming he papacy who have taken positive steps to lead many millions more than all of those above put together into the waiting gates of hell by teaching them to hate Truth and refusing even to tell those who reject the Truth what Truth is. The current such occupant has a Cardinal in his church who has, very publicly, denounced the Church's condemnation of homosexual unions. He's just appointed a man who denies several dogmas of the Faith to a position that is supposed to defend those same dogmas. Virtually all his bishops (including himself) actively condemn the evangelization of people outside the Church. The vast majority of people in the world accept these ideas as the official teaching of the Catholic Church and to the extent that they embrace those teachings cut themselves from the unity of the Church.
Actually, the brutal dictators mentioned above killed only the bodies of millions of people. The Conciliar popes kill countless billions to everlasting hellfire.
Which is milder?
